The Weighbridge Garden Project
The Weighbridge Garden Project aims to address the social isolation of residents, who are both frail aged and have mental health issues, by linking the community into the Aged Care facility. The project includes the construction of a sensory garden, an edible garden and a bocce court to promote interaction between residents and the environment, as well as providing attractive spaces for family, friends and staff to enjoy the outdoor environment.
The garden construction is being supported by a number of local community groups including the Rotary Club of Flemington and the Essendon Retired Person’s Garden Club who will continue to provide assistance with the garden’s maintenance and upkeep once the project is completed. Students from Kangan Batman TAFE will be documenting the project through video and photography and maintaining a blog on the Internet of the project development. The project has also received support from Moonee Valley City Council and United Nurseries Pty Ltd.
This project has been funded by the Victorian Department of Human Services.
